Celebrating Hope. Fighting for CURE!

This past Tuesday was my first day back to work after a three month maternity leave.  In case you don't know what I do, I am a nurse at the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Service at CHOA.  This means that I work with many sweet children and families whose lives are affected daily by cancer.  Upon returning to work, I was reminded that while I had a break from this awful disease, the patients and families we serve did not.  They did not have a summer vacation from the hospital visits, chemotherapy, clinic visits, etc.

September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.  Please take a moment to watch this video and consider giving to CURE.  CURE Childhood Cancer is a wonderful organization that provides support to families battling cancer, raises money for clinical research, and helps support doctors in the Hematology/Oncology field.  (Side note:  I sent out this video to several of you last year, but is is so moving I wanted to share it again!)

As the video demonstrates, the cure rate for childhood cancer is close to 80%!  What a drastic improvement we have made over the past 50+ years!  However, that means that 20% of children still loose their battle to cancer.  Please consider giving so that in the years to come, all children diagnosed with cancer will one day be cancer free!
