I wanted to make sure that I wrote about our New Year's this year. Usually we just hang out with friends and do something around Atlanta. We've seen the Peach Drop at Underground Atlanta. Our first few married New Year's Eves were spent with our friends the Sutherlands. I've even spent one New Year's Eve working (thank you night shift). This year, however, Paul and I took a trip to Chicago for the weekend. Just the two of us. It was nice.

Paul kept saying, "Let's take a trip in December." I kept asking him, "when?" December is always so crazy and I couldn't foresee us having a free weekend to just take off. After much thought and contemplation (read, persistence from my husband), we decided New Year's weekend would be just perfect. Chicago wasn't a hard pick. We knew it would be cold, but I had never been and Paul had really only been for work. So, our destination was set!
We left Friday morning and arrived just in time for a late lunch. Paul did all of our trip planning, which was an added bonus. Pretty much every trip we have been on as a married couple, I have done all of the trip planning, research, booking, etc. I do love it, but it was also nice to be along for the ride for a change. Paul did a great job of packing everything in since we were there less than thirty six hours. Our hotel was right along Lake Michigan at Navy Pier. We had a beautiful view from our hotel room. It was especially nice because we could see the fire works from Navy Pier at midnight on New Year's.

Rather than bore you with play by play details of the weekend, I'll just mention a few highlights. I loved the Art Institute of Chicago, especially the impressionist paintings (those are my favorite anywhere, though). Breakfast at Lou Mitchell's was delicious! I especially loved the doughnuts the owner would pass out to those waiting in line! Yummy, as Mary Frances would say. Millennial Park was great. Had it not been so cold and Paul and I so hungry, I could have sat people watching much longer. I also loved walking along the streets of Chicago, taking in the buildings and scenery. Walking along the river was wonderful as well.

We really had such a wonderful time together. We always do. I am so thankful we took the time to get away, especially before busy season hit for Paul. It will always be a special memory and a special trip. And, next time my husband tells me he wants us to go on a trip, I will most definitely say yes a whole lot sooner!
Love,
Katy
